The P.D.A.D., Peyronie’s Disease Assesment Device, by UroSciences

If you have erectile dysfunction, you may want to consult with your urologist on the possible presence of Peyronie’s Disease–especially if you also have diabetes. Recent studies suggest that men with erectile dysfunction may not be aware that they also have Peyronie’s Disease, and that it could be contributing to their ED symptoms. And, in men with both ED and Peyronie’s disease, who were previously unaware of their Peyronie’s, diabetes was also present in 40% of cases.  The study, conducted in Istanbul, Turkey, suggests that Peyronie’s disease should always be suspected in men with both ED and diabetes.

Renal and Urology News recently reported that collagenase injections are out-performing placebos in recent studies known as” Impress I” and “Impress II” for the treatment of Peyronie’s disease, and it seems that the injections are effective regardless of the severity of the disease.  The phase 3 studies, performed by the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, resulted in up to 39-degrees of improvement in penile curvature.  In addition, the subjects’ receiving the Peyronie’s injections had markedly reduced bother scores.

Prostate cancer and fish oil study under fire

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

It’s likely that you saw last week’s news headlines about a recent study finding that fish oil, specifically Omega-3 fatty acids naturally found in salmon, flaxseed and other foods, is linked to a increase in prostate cancer.  As you might imagine, the headlines drew national, even global, media attention, leaving the medical community in a bit of a spin.

This week, the study that made news headlines last week is facing real scrutiny, as its findings go against everything previously known to be true about fish oil actually reducing the likelihood of many cancers.  Multiple studies have found fish oil to be beneficial in preventing cancer, including those performed by the University of California San Francisco, and the Harvard School of Public Health.

As with other studies that have raised eyebrows, experts recommend consulting multiple reputable sources for online medical information, rather than making personal health decisions based on a single article or study. Perhaps this is a great example of both the benefits and drawbacks of having millions of pages of online health information at our fingertips.  While we have access to on demand health information, we also must be informed consumers of that information.

This post was brought to you via UroSciences, makers of the UroStop device for preventing climacturia (urine leakage during sex), and the P.D.A.D. assessment tool for Peyronie’s disease.

Diagnosis and Treatment for Peyronie’s Disease

What Is Peyronie’s Disease?

Peyronie’s Disease, also known as Chronic Inflammation of the Tunica Albuginea (CITA), is a disorder affecting the soft tissue of the penis, and is characterized by  plaque formations within the soft tissue resulting in sometimes painful penile curvature and indentations during an erection. Since blood does not properly flow through the fibrous plaque formations during an erection, the penis curves or indents toward the area of the plaque.

Peyronie’s Disease Diagnosis

PD is most often diagnosed by a urologist conducting a physical exam of the flaccid penis.  Other tests such as ultrasounds and x-rays may be necessary to complete diagnosis and to determine the areas of soft tissue which require treatment.  If examination of the penis during an erection is necessary, the urologist may administer an injection to cause an erection, or request that the patient provide photos of his erect penis, taken at home.  One of the most significant problems with diagnosis of Peyronie’s Disease is the level of embarrassment and understandable anxiety associated with the necessary exams and the disease itself.

Peyronie’s Disease Assessment Device- P.D.A.D.™

To meet the challenges of diagnosing and tracking the treatment success of PD, and to ease the anxiety associated with the necessary exams, a new  device known as the P.D.A.D. is available for precisely measuring and evaluating the severity of Peyronie’s Disease. Designed for both patients and physicians, the  P.D.A.D. is the only device of its kind, and allows for easy and universal measurement of the degree of curvature of the penis, measurement of indentations, and measurement of penis length.

For physicians and patients, the P.D.A.D. provides a standard urology tool for evaluating, determining, and monitoring the progress of Peyronie’s Disease treatment options, and particularly for patients, the P.D.A.D., when used at home, provides a private method to track improvements in penile curvature.
